We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our amazing community! On March 10th, we were overjoyed to see our first elephant rescue, Kanoon The Bull Elephant, featured on The Dodo’s YouTube and Facebook channels. This was followed by another heartwarming feature on March 16th, this time on Instagram and TikTok. It’s been an incredible month so far, and we are so grateful to The Dodo’s team for helping us share Kanoon’s story with the world. In particular a big thanks to Hannah!
On the 24th of June 2023,we started our first elephant rescue mission in Thailand, with a bull elephant named Kanoon. Kanoon was an abandoned bull elephant chained up for 4 years in Mae Tang, Chiang Mai, in the scorching sun or pouring rain, with little to no food. With a mission to raise 650,000 baht ($19,118) inorder to secure Kanoon’s freedom and relocate him to a safe haven. We rallied the community, from NFT sales to crowdfunding, each step to unchain Kanoon as fast as we could.
I’m absolutely stoked to see our 1st elephant rescue, Kanoon the elephant, featured on The Dodo even though the story is bittersweet; it’s absolutely amazing! But I must say, getting involved in buying the freedom of an elephant, especially a bull elephant, has been by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Kanoon’s elephant rescue mission actually began long before we started to raise funds. It actually all started because we had to step in and do something as we could not walk away from him. And despite already seeing it then that this rescue would come with a few challenges. We went ahead anyways.
On the 12th of November 2023, we woke up to shocking news that left us wandering around in disbelief. It is with pain that we share the tough news of Kanoon, the bull elephant we rescued three months ago, passing away. We are waiting for the vet’s results for the exact cause, as his leg and tongue swelled last night.
